Join the conversation, y'all!

We had a great turnout of between 15-20 people for our inaugural KSMA organizing meeting, held at Knoxville Overground. A nice variety of professions and interests were represented, and we generated some great ideas. Here are the main points that came out of the meeting:

-KSMA should serve as a professional networking organization

-KSMA should offer measurable value to members via training, speakers, case study discussions (including those spotlighting social media failures), and public service opportunities

-Along with sponsored quarterly events on a larger scale (like our not-to-be-missed Big Event at the Crown & Goose coming up Thursday!), KSMA should offer smaller, regular gatherings every 3-4 weeks.

-The smaller get-togethers should be varied in when and where they take place (some breakfasts, some happy hours, etc) so that more people will be able to find one that fits into their schedule.

-We should consider a first public service project soon. It could be a public education campaign on what small businesses should look for in hiring a social media consultant, or it might be a project offering free social media planning for a non-profit.

-In deciding what formal offices we might create to lead KSMA, the titles should be clearly linked to a function. In other words, instead of a "VP," it's better to have someone who is charge of sponsorships, someone who is in charge of membership development, etc

-For the first six to twelve months, a steering committee of around seven people should lead the organization. Only after that time will we consider a more formal structure, with offices, titles, and possibly, modest membership fees.

Those are my notes from our meeting. If I've missed something, please add it in the comments below. And if you are interested in serving on our official steering commitee, please let me know via email at katie.granju@gmail.com

Thanks!

Katie

Looks pretty thoroughly documented to me. I'm looking forward to participating in this.
